Helsinki Open Space Plan (VISTRA II), elaborated alongside the new City Plan, concretizes and visualizes the objectives outlined in the vision (VISTRA-VISIO) of 2013, aiming at a green network city. According to these objectives, Helsinki green areas will form an easily accessible interconnected network that consists of diverse and historically layered city-scape fostering identity as well as a resilient green and blue structure helping to adapt to the effects of climate change.

The Green Fingers - green wedges extending from seashore to city limits, and the Blue Palm - the seascape with its coastline and islands, together with the Green Lines - the transversal green connections, form the backbone of the green areas system
