City of Helsinki road map

The City of Helsinki road map (centreline data) comprises the centrelines of Helsinki traffic routes, including the centrelines of sidewalks, pedestrian crossings, cycle paths and combined pedestrian and bicycle routes. The dataset also includes the centrelines of the most important park walkways, park roads and park paths as well as boat docks, horse riding routes and the main outdoor routes.

The dataset also includes bridges, underpasses and stairs. Some underground connections and connections through shopping centres have also been recorded in the dataset.

The initial data for the maintenance of the centreline dataset includes the base map, up-to-date detailed plans, the guide map, the latest orthophotographs, the classification of streets (Transport Planning Unit of the City Planning Department), the outdoor and cycling map of the Helsinki Metropolitan Area and the data produced by the HKR.

The data is available in two different formats:

1. Esri Shape: ETRS-GK25 (EPSG:3879)
2. KML: WGS 84 (WGS 1984, EPSG:4326)

The data is maintained in vector form with the Bentley MicroStation program. The classification of the transport network is based on the Road Traffic Act and the route classification used by the Transport Planning Unit of the City Planning Department.

The centreline data was last updated in 2014. The dataset is not updated any more.
