The regional map is general map dataset compiled from the data of the 14 municipalities in the Helsinki region. The map is divided into sections describing land use, transport network, and place names. The regional map can be used for various analyses, as source material for map products, and as a background map. The recommended scale for use is 1:10,000–1:50,000.

The regional map was updated at the turn of the year 2024–2025. As a result the map’s appearance and production method have changed. Previously, the regional map was based on municipalities’ own datasets. The current new regional map is based on open data sources such as the topographic database, Digiroad, and OpenStreetMap. HSY is responsible for compiling the dataset and defining the map styles.

Hte map covers the areas of the following municipalities: Espoo, Helsinki, Hyvinkää, Järvenpää, Kauniainen, Kerava, Kirkkonummi, Mäntsälä, Nurmijärvi, Pornainen, Sipoo, Tuusula, Vantaa ja Vihti.

The dataset is updated as needed, meaning when there are major changes in the source data or the product is developed further. The regional map is distributed as part of HSY’s annually published SeutuData product and as open data on HSY’s open data website. Feedback on the dataset can be sent to sepe@hsy.fi.

HSY has created styles for all datasets.

The terms of use and publication for the regional map are determined according to the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license. When using the datasets, the source information must be mentioned.

The traditional grid dataset of the regional map (2 km, 1 km, 500 m, 250 m grids) is still available in MapInfo TAB format. These datasets have not been updated as part of the renewal. Their source is © Helsinki City Surveying Service, municipalities of the Helsinki region, and HSY.

The datasets are available in Esri Shapefile and GeoPackage formats and can be accessed via WMS and WFS interfaces. The formats available through the interface can always be found in the service’s GetCapabilities-request under the outputFormat section (link refers to WFS).
