Urban tree database of the City of Helsinki

The Urban tree database of Helsinki (Puuatlas) is a system of the City of Helsinki’s Urban Environment Division that contains information about the street and park tree assets in public areas (streets, squares, parks). The urban tree database does not contain forest data. The dataset is maintained for the use of the Urban Environment Division and does not, as a rule, contain trees that are the responsibility of other organisational departments or institutions, such as trees on plots.

The dataset includes information on the location, species and size categories of street and park tree assets. Planting year data is also included for some trees.

There are shortcomings and errors in the register data, which should be taken into account in the use of the data. The data is not updated systematically. In the case of street trees, the data has been updated fairly comprehensively, but in the case of park trees, the register contains only partial data.

The data is available for download in several formats, including JSON, KML, CSV, Esri Shape, and XML. Available formats can always be found under OutputFormat in the GetCapabilities query for the service.

Urban tree database: attributes, data types and their key and reliability data in information services:

• id (int). Unique identifier of the feature.
• tunnus (string). Registration number of the tree (starting with K = street tree, starting with P = park tree).
• kadunnimi (string). Street where the street tree is located.
• puistonnimi (string). Park where the park tree is located.
• paatyyppi (string). Detailed plan symbol for the location of the tree (street, park).
• suomenknimi (string). Finnish trivial name of the tree.
• suku (string). Scientific genus name of the tree.
• laji (string). Scientific species name of the tree.
• kokoluokka (string). Size class of the tree according to the breast height diameter.
• istutusvuosi (int). Planting year of the tree.
• datanomistaja (string). Data owner.
• paivitetty_tietopalveluun (date). Information service record date (yyyy-mm-dd).
• geom (GeometryPropertyType). Geometry of the feature.
